Our 2009 Season

Sweet Charity

Weathervane's 2009 Season opens with the feel-good musical Sweet Charity. Originally directed and choreographed in 1966 by Bob Fosse, Sweet Charity is packed full of all-time great show-stopping numbers including Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now and Rhythm of Life.

Come meet Charity Hope Valentine, a lovelorn dance hall hostess at the Fan-Dango Ballroom: she's a true original, an eternal optimist, and is in search of just one thing - happiness. But it seems the harder she searches the more difficult it is to find. Why? Because Charity's idea of happiness is a man... Join Charity on her adventures, or rather misadventures, in love as she shows us the rhythms and sounds of New York in the 60s.

The Cemetery Club

The only tears you’ll shed at this cemetery are those from laughter! The Cemetery Club is a witty and wise comedy with a kick. Take three middle-aged widows - one who flirts outrageously, one who is dedicated to the memory of her husband, and one who is beginning to realize that she still has a life to live - throw an eligible widower into the mix, and watch the sparks fly!

The Cemetery Club uses humor, irony, and heartfelt emotion to examine the issues of dying, re-kindling romance, and starting life anew. As the play unfolds, the inner feelings of Ida, Lucille, and Doris are revealed, and show that, while life must move on, true friendship remains constant. This touching play is funny, wise, and gloriously witty.

Into the Woods

Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods combines the well-loved fairy tales of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel, with the tale of a childless Baker and his Wife, who catalyze the action of the story by attempting to reverse a curse on their family in order to have a child.

While the faces and names are familiar, all the stories intersect through unexpected, new plot twists. Ultimately, the characters must deal with what happens AFTER "Happily Ever After," realizing that all of their actions have consequences. This Broadway classic tackles the universal themes of relationships between children & parents, our dreams & wishes, and growing up.

Cheaper by the Dozen

What do you get when you mix a blunt-talking, famous efficiency-expert father and a brilliant, compassionate psychologist mother with twelve rambunctious offspring of various sizes? You get one of America's all-time best-loved memoirs! The hilarious story of 'growing up Gilbreth' has already delighted generations of readers -- and it remains as joyous and exuberant as ever. Laugh along with the adventures of the large, irrepressible family unit that redefined the term -- and proved the old adage -- the more the merrier ... and scarier!

Cheaper by the Dozen is based on the book of the same name, written by two of the Gilbreth children, Frank Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. A hilarious, endearing and ultimately touching family play, Cheaper by the Dozen is a classic!

The Secret Garden

The classic story of an orphan girl who finds life and happiness by tending "a bit of earth" has charmed children and adults alike for generations. This Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a treat for the whole family, and features some of the most stunning melodies from Broadway's recent past.

The Secret Garden tells the story of a young girl named Mary who, after suffering a terrible tragedy, finds herself living with her unhappy uncle in the English countryside. His house is haunted by a painful past, and is filled with shadows and strange sounds. Mary's youthful spirit is precisely what the house needs, as she magically transforms her surroundings and teaches her uncle to embrace life again. Don't miss this beautiful, uplifting tale!
